Commentary

“Grenada:  In the Supreme Court of Grenada and the West Indies Associated States High Court of Justice (Civil)between the Attorney-General (Claimant) and Seaview Corporation Limited (Defendant) and Phoenix Company Limited (Added Defendant)..” ……The Defendant being an Alien under the Laws of Grenada applied for and was granted an Alien Land Holders Licence on 1st February 1966 by the Government of Grenada to hold the said lot of land. The Defendant represented to the Government and proposed to carry out a development on the property. …….It was a condition of the licence that the Defendant would grant the offshore island L’Islette to the Government of Grenada and begin its proposed project within two years of the grand of the licence, that is, before 1968. …….The island L’Islette was never conveyed to the Government of Grenada and the proposed project was never commenced by the Defendant within the stated time frame of two years. ……The property was conveyed to Phoenix Limited sometime during the course of 1989. However, the original deed was misplaced and apparently never registered at the Deeds and Land Registry, but copies of the said document do exist and have been annexed to the various applications before this Court. …….Phoenix Limited also applied for and received concessions approved by Cabinet. These concessions were communicated to Phoenix by way of letter from the Grenada Industrial Development Corporation dated 18th December 1987 and addressed to Phoenix’s local agent, Mr. George de Bourg…….

As E-day approaches, there are a number of questions of which we the people wish to remind the retiring Executive whose tenure ends with the commencement of special voting on June 20th for members of law enforcement, followed on June 23rd, when the general electorate will make a definitive decision.

Grenada is counting down to E-day, June 23rd. The excitement is palpable! Everybody seems to be a prophet. Various predictions are being made. As we all know, it is never over till it is over. And the outcome of election day not only depends on what happens on election day but what preceded election day, in particular, the Voter Registration process, the pillar of free and fair elections, through which the will of the people will be realized.

H.E.’s reference to being involved in projects such as e-government should have we the people very uncomfortable and asking deep, hard questions. The E-Government project to which H.E. seems to be referring is the Electronic Government Regional Integration Project (EGRIP). It seems reasonable to ask whether H.E. Oleg was involved in the implementation of this e-government (EGRIP) project in Grenada. and what is the status of that project?

My good friend, I began writing We the People articles during the election campaign of 2003, during which time you were probably being socialized as a New National Party student activist. I began writing because I got tired of the Pied Piper politics which took advantage of people’s lack of information and understanding of key issues, feeding them lies and empty promises…….

But, Hon. David, as you reflect on your years as the “People’s Champion”, Member of Parliament for the Town of St. George and as you get ready to again offer yourself at the next polls, what will be your legacy? In your position as Member of Parliament, what actions/interventions have you facilitated that have been transformative while demonstrating respect for and confidence in the people of the constituency? What has sustainably improved/will sustainably improve the quality of life of the disadvantaged and vulnerable of the constituency?

It is NOT rocket science, Hon, Minister, that if people are simply told to go home and quarantine/isolate without any other instructions/prescriptions for alleviating their symptoms, then there will be escalation and need to go into hospital – something to be avoided at all costs. Therefore, what are the instructions and protocols that those doing the testing must follow when a person tests positive?
