Keeping an Eye on C&N Port Louis Marina 2013

We are particularly concerned about the protection of the Lagoon shore to which the Company lays claim and the fact that the Lagoon, a significant national asset is under the control of the Company. We continue to look for answers relating to the infamous Original Deed of Release of October 5th, 2006 which is purported to have facilitated the transfer of the people’s property to Ambassador DeSavary’s Port Louis for EC$1.00 (who then sold to Camper and Nicholson) – but is not registered in the Deeds and Lands Registry of Grenada because “it could not be found”.

As usual, Citizens in Defence of Grenada’s Lands and Heritage continues to monitor the performance and developments of the Camper and Nicholson Port Louis Marina, given that a significant national asset, the Lagoon, is under its control and the Company has also laid claim to the Lagoon Park. We are still seeking answers. Where is the Original Deed of Release of October 5th, 2006 which facilitated the transfer of the people’s property for EC$1.00 to Ambassador Peter De Savary’s Port Louis but was not recorded country’s Deeds and Lands Registry?

Since we last reported on the threat of legal action against the Government of Grenada by the owners and operators of the Camper and Nicholson Port Louis marina, we have taken note of the following significant developments and wonder about their implications for Grenada.

ED. Camper & Nicholsons Vs. We the People

Citizens in Defence of Grenada’s Lands and Heritage is not surprised that Camper and Nicholson is challenging the conditions under which it was granted permission for temporary reclamation. It maintains its plans for construction on the Lagoon Park. But to be brazen enough to suggest that the Government of Grenada should reimburse the company for the installation of its sewer system and waste collection services is adding insult to injury.

So, in the name of progress and development (“let the progress continue”?) the “powers that be” permitted Camper and Nicholsons to occupy part of the Lagoon Park and to fill in an area adjacent to that part of the park without the requisite Environmental Impact Assessment and, as far as could have been observed without compliance to the required mitigating measures, silt traps and rock abutments. It also seemed that people’s issues were no longer of any consequence.
