Has work QUIETLY begun on Silver Sands Phase 2 on the Riviera Lot opposite Camerhogne Park?
Permit me to draw to your attention the following Bill Board which has been recently erected in the
Riviera Lot adjoining Camerhogne Park – Silver Sands Phase 2.
Camerhogne Park and Grand Anse Beach are national assets which form part of the patrimony of Grenada. The citizens of Grenada are collectively the owners of these assets and patrimony and have a right to the enjoyment of these assets and patrimony.
In 2016, Sen. Ray Roberts brought a motion before the Senate to Protect Camerhogne Park at its present location for the use and enjoyment of the Grenadian people……
During his 2016 Budget Statement, the Hon. Prime Minister and Minister of Finance rocked the nation when he casually announced , “The Rivera Hotel is now being designed…………During this design phase, the investors have agreed to construct a new Camerhogne Park nearby and upgrade the vendors market and the basketball and tennis courts.” (our emphasis). The most logical conclusion that could be drawn by we the people and we the shareholders is that a commitment has been given to the investors re the control of Camerhogne Park, perhaps as far back as 2013 when the Riviera property was conveyed. By what process had any decision been arrived at? Was it that, once again, we the people were obstacle/impediments to cleared from the path of investors??!!
The patrimony that is Grand Anse beach is first and foremost for the use and enjoyment of the citizens, not for hotel development. Grand Anse beach has reached its carrying capacity and further beach front construction is not recommended since construction increases the risk
of beach destruction due to sea level rise, the inevitable impact that will occur as a result of climate change.
In response to queries about building another hotel on an already crowded beach when there was documentation which suggested that this was not advisable, Mr. Renwick replied that Grand Anse could be considered the ‘jewel’ or ‘high street’ of Grenada where investor should want to be.
Sen. Hood was speaking at a press briefing during which she addressed the matter of letters that were sent by government to the two vendors operating on the Camerhogne Park beachfront asking them to relocate from the Park with effect from September , 2014).
I think, Sir, that you all may have taken the post election announcement of the Strategic Economic Advisor a bit too far – Grenada is open for business! Bring your cheque book and come! Camerhogne Park is not for sale!! Camerhogne Park was planned for we the people of Grenada! It was located on the best site available to accommodate our needs and our rights of access to Grand Anse Beach.
